As the need to be constantly on the move increases in society, so too has the popularity of the laptop. But even with increased portability, these computers are completely useless if the battery runs out of power. That is where adapters for laptops become incredibly useful. There are many different kinds of adapters for laptops including laptop AC adapters and DC adapters,  and laptop car adapters. There are even adapters for laptops specifically charging the computer on planes. So what is the right choice in adapter?

The most common and popular type of adapters for laptops is the laptop AC adapter. Alternating current is the form in which electricity is delivered to homes, and is the versatile source for powering a computer. In fact, every major U.S. computer manufacturer packages their notebooks with a laptop AC adapter. It has a simple plug made to fit all common outlets, usually with a power brick, making it somewhat unwieldy for constant use. However, laptop AC adapters are the favorite adapters for laptops because of the readily available sources of AC power.

One of the adapters for laptops that has gained popularity over the past few years is the laptop car adapter. For people who use the computer on the go, or need to power it for a long trip, laptop auto adapters are an excellent option. The laptop car adapter functions similar to all adapters for laptops, with the key change being that instead of a pronged plug for use in an outlet, the computer is charged through the car battery via the cigarette lighter. A laptop car adapter is a convenient and easy way to recharge a computer for people constantly on the go.

There is a danger, however, with any laptop power adapters. Due to the great electricity consumed in using and charging via adapters for laptops, the cords and specifically the power brick have a tendency to overheat. When using laptop power adapters, make sure the brick is on a surface that won't easily burn or melt, and check to see if any problems have been reported about that specific cord. Dell, one of the most well respected manufacturers in the world, had to recently recall thousands of adapters for laptops because of overheating issues.

Another thing to watch for is voltage and connectivity. Each computer requires a certain amount of voltage to run, so make sure the adapters for laptops purchased match with the system's requirements. Also, each manufacturer attaches their cables a little differently, so make sure that the prongs on the back of the computers and the cords match up correctly. Thankfully, many third party manufactures are producing adapters for laptops with interchangeable prongs to help alleviate this issue.

Laptops are great for taking computing anywhere, but they'll only work for a limited time. It's important to remember that wherever the laptop goes, adapters for laptops should go with it. Be it at home, in the office, or even in the car, adapters for laptops ensure that the battery will remain fully charged, so that the computer can be used without dead battery interruptions at an important time. Just make sure that it doesn't overheat or isn't the wrong type, and enjoy the sensation of modern mobile computing.
